I first came across the Cookie Monstah truck in 2013 (!!), pre kids, when I was working downtown. These days, they have expanded to brick and mortar locations in Danvers, Swampscott, Burlington and (just recently) Needham. Aaaaannnnnd, their truck is back on the Greenway, Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

They have over 20 flavors of cookies and the cookie ice cream sandwich combinations are endless! Above is the “Slim Shady” – vanilla ice cream sandwiched inside two m&m cookies. Order off the menu or make a custom creation of your own. They’ve even expanded to “quakes”, cookies and ice cream blended together to hit the spot this summer!

A favorite in our house is the “Peanut Buttah Blast” – Reese’s cookies with Reese’s peanut butter cup ice cream. All the cookies are made from scratch, using the finest ingredients, and the ice cream is from Richardson’s. How can you go wrong?

Back in the height of the pandemic, when people weren’t having parties, our neighbor graciously surprised us with a socially distant baby shower, complete with a visit from the Cookie Monstah truck. Such a fun idea! People can stop by and grab one to go and wave hello, or sit outside (socially distant) and enjoy some ice cream on the front lawn – perfect for all comfort levels.

For more information on the Cookie Monstah truck, click here. Make sure to sign up or their loyalty program too!

I am always on the hunt for a GREAT breakfast sandwich. We went to the Maynard Farmers’ Market this past fall and had brunch at the Morning Salute food truck. The farmers’ market is located on Main Street next to Mill Pond. It runs every Saturday from 9am – 1pm beginning the last Sat in June and running through the first weekend in October.

The food truck is owned by Billerica native, Rob Whitten, who is also an Army vet. The menu is pretty straight forward with about 8 items. All of the breakfast sandwiches are served on a Portuguese roll, which are my favorite.

I order “the captain” which is a pork breakfast sausage, muenster cheese and two fried eggs on a Portuguese roll. The sandwich is $6 and will definitely keep you full until your next meal. Super simple ingredients, really great flavor profile. Check out their website and follow them on social media to find out where they will be next!

I’ve become so used to pizza that can be made in 90 seconds, it seemed insane when they told me that my pizza would take 10 minutes (wait for my pizza? What?!?!) …when really, the insane part is that 10 minutes for a meal isn’t really all that long. In a world of 140 characters and on demand everything, I realize that I have become very impatient. We ate lunch at the South Street Seaport (#Seaportsmorg) outlet of Pizza Moto, where they make Neopolitan style pizzas in handmade ovens.

IMG_9062

My 10″ pie comes with tomato, fresh mozzarella & mushroom. You can really taste the quality in the ingredients. Other choices are margherita with tomato, basil, fresh mozzarella and olive oil or pepperoni with tomato and fresh mozzarella. I was starving so I devoured this pizza on my own, but it could certainly be enough for two!

I have seen The Barking Claw’s cart for some time outside in Grumpy’s Pub’s parking lot.

IMG_8208

To be honest, my first thought was: lobster from a cart? How good could that be? How fresh is it? Did it come from a plastic tub? But then I thought, if the lobster rolls weren’t delicious, I wouldn’t see the cart there year after year. So this was the year that I was going to try one. We stopped over on a Sunday afternoon (they are only open Wed-Sun, 11-3) to give one a try.

IMG_8203

The lobster rolls are well priced at $16. You can also get hot dogs or a stuffed quahog.IMG_8204

Owner Bill Swain loads the lobster rolls up with a good deal of lobster meat. There’s no mayo here (thank goodness), just lobster and some butter with a little bit of lettuce on a toasted hot dog bun.
IMG_8216

I have to say that I was a fool not to have stopped earlier, these lobster rolls rank right up at the top of my list. The lobster is fresh and sweet. The presentation is simple, letting the lobster speak for itself.

IMG_7447It was a beautiful, albeit windy, day on the Greenway. I met Kat out for an early lunch before the food trucks got swarmed with the lunchtime crowd. I was trying out Posto Mobile for the first time! Posto Mobile is a food truck out of Davis Square – they have a brick and mortar location on Elm Street in Somerville.

IMG_7448The food truck cooks pizza in 90 seconds in their 900 degree oven. They are camped out on the Greenway on Wednesdays and Fridays. Can’t get enough of them at lunch time? You can have them cater your event – I’m thinking this would be an awesome idea to have them come and do a summer outing for my office.

The truck had so many delicious sounding pizzas, it was hard to choose. Oh, and they have baked pastas as well (next time!!). I had the sausage pizza, with (not too) spicy sausage, mozzarella (they make it fresh every day), and oregano. The pizza is thin crust but it is soft and chewy – the sign on a great pizza is always the cough. The pizza was a generous size, I took  a half of it home with me! Great experience, great pizza and great company. Looking forward to trying out the restaurant in the near future.

It has been some time since I had seen my friend Ziggy, so we decided to hop in the car and drive down to RI to see him and his wife at the Farmers Market he sells at on the weekends. The Pawtucket Wintertime Farmers Market can be found at the Hope Artiste Village at 1005 Main Street in Pawtucket on Saturdays from 9am-1pm. While we were visiting we walked around to buy some other delicious goodies:

IMG_9388The Humble Pie Company in Providence is run by Daniel Sheehan, and has been open since 2013. We sampled the mini apple pies, which were delicious – the crust was flaky and light, the filling was top notch, and I loved the oat crunch on top.

IMG_9385We also tried the linzer torte – a really nice blend of spices and I loved the jam!

IMG_9394North Bakery just won top honors for their chocolate chip cookies ($1.75) which have a nice sprinkling of sea salt over top.

IMG_9398My friend Ziggy is the man behind Fox Point Pickles. He makes them in two flavors, garlic dill and spicy dill. The spicy dill pickles pack a punch, but it’s a delayed on, you don’t get it right when you bite into the pickle. The spicy dill would be great in a bloody mary!

IMG_5218The Rocket food truck was outside serving up gourmet street food.

IMG_5222I was really digging the mom’s baked mac and cheese ($4) made with Vermont sharp cheddar cheese, butter and Rhody fresh whole milk. The perfect amount of cheese sauce with a smooth, buttery flavor.

Rocket Fine Street Food on Urbanspoon

IMG_5219Pat’s Pastured has a food truck where we had Pat’s Burger ($13) a 100% grass fed beef burger served with cheddar cheese, carmelized onions, Arcadian Fields greens, and garlic aioli (add the egg for $1 – trust us!). Just as we got up to the front of the line, they ran out of buns, so we grabbed our burger on two hotdog rolls. Still super delicious!

Inside was avocado sauce, cheese, pink sauce and sofrito. You can get it with carnitas or chicken but my coworker picked the veggie which comes with carrots, cabbage, broccoli, and cucumbers.

IMG_4726I tried to order the empanadas ($3) but they only had one left, so I chose a side of rice to supplement. The line wasn’t that bad, but we waited a good 15 minutes for our food. The food itself was delicious, so we are hoping that they work on their execution a bit before we go back for another round.

IMAG0235Also great from their truck, the knishes. The potato knish might be my favorite. Carbohydrates on top of carbohydrates! YUM!

IMG_4559They’re pretty consistent with their food and you are in and out fairly quickly. They are out at 11am, so you can also get breakfast from the truck. They serve bagels and breakfast sandwiches.

IMG_4560My second favorite would be the sweet potato knish! And I’m dying to try the pastrami knish – but it seems elusive! Check out the website to see where the truck will be.

IMAG0047I love macarons, so you can only imagine my level of excitement when I heard that there was going to be a macaron food truck!

IMG_0770Check out the cute packaging!

IMG_0775Cameo macarons come in these delicious flavors: black currant, creme brulee, espresso bean, island coconut, lemon tart, nutella, passion fruit, peanut butter and jelly, pistachio, rose petal, salted caramel, vanilla, white chocolate and wild raspberry.

IMG_0780A single is $2.50, six for $15, a dozen for $29 and 24 for $56. You can place large orders and pick them up on the truck.

IMG_0782We chose the vanilla, pistachio, lemon tart, raspberry, and nutella. The ganache in the vanilla was super smooth, it reminded me of pudding. The raspberry had jelly in the middle which I really liked. The nutella was really rich and decadent while the pistachio fell a little short on flavor for me. The lemon was really refreshing, I loved the tartness! Glad to have this truck around town, although…it could be deadly!

IMG_1098Churn2 is located near the Harvard Science center, it’s a shipping container that is open seasonally, producing delicious ice cream. Owner Ash Chan is on to a great idea.

IMG_1080From their website:

Operating from a fixed location allows a container to be part of the neighborhood, receiving regular deliveries and satisfying cravings without burning fossil fuels every day. The strictly limited interior space inspires novel and efficient foods and preparations while dramatically reducing consumption of power, water, real estate, and natural resources. Without the tires, cab and engine, customers can walk right into the container, engage with the staff, and watch their food being prepared while staying out of the elements. The extra space also facilitates more complex preparations that yield fresher and more creative food. But, the ability to set up or pack up in a day gives just the right amount of portability to accommodate dynamic demands and special events. Maximizing efficiency allows us to serve a better product to the same number of customers as a store several times larger while leaving the land below unscathed for the future.

IMG_1100Churn 2 makes liquid nitrogen ice cream. You can’t help but stop and watch then whip up a batch.

IMG_1110Each ice cream is made to order. They  have two flavors per day. Meet Jerry. When I asked him how he decides on the flavors, he said that usually it’s based on a whim. Peppermint patties were on sale today, I picked up some bags and voila, today’s special is chocolate peppermint patty!

IMG_1112Ice cream is Jerry’s passion – he loves what he is doing…and it shows. He takes time to talk with all of the customers and patiently answers questions, all with a smile.

churnI asked him how he knows the ice cream is ready – and he says, you just feel it. Ice cream whisperer? Maybe.

IMG_1127The final product.

IMG_1106The mango strawberry (right) and chocolate peppermint patty (left). Both were delicious – flavorful and creamy!
