When we showed up there was no one else in the dining room. Most of the patrons were sitting in the bar playing keno, so it was nice to have the place to ourselves. China Rose does a big takeout business as well.

Make sure to go to their website to get a 15% off coupon. They also print coupons on the back of the local Stop and Shop receipts.

Lunch specials come in at a good price, all under $10. They’re served daily from 11:30-3:30. You can have your choice of pork fried rice or steamed rice and one choice of the following appetizer: egg roll, spring roll, chicken teriyaki, 6 boneless spareribs, 3 chicken fingers, 3 crab rangoon, chicken wing or a beef teriyaki. I’m usually a General Tso kind of girl, but they have lo mein, beef and broccoli, shrimp and mixed vegetables and sweet and sour chicken to name a few other options.

They have a good variety of sushi on their menu with special rolls like an alligator maki, a red dragon maki, a super spider maki and a volcano maki to name a few. Special rolls will run you about $12-$15. Regular maki rolls will run you anywhere from $5-$10. Pictured above is the shrimp tempura maki.

China Rose also offers dinner specials, similar to the lunch specials but coming in at around $12.95.

Service was friendly and attentive. Parking is available in a private lot out front.

I used to go to the Lotus Blossom all the time when I was growing up. Hadn’t been there in ages, and one day decided to mix it up and try someplace new. And by new, I mean not Panera or the pizza place they know us at because I am there three times a week. The Lotus Blossom serves Chinese and Japanese cuisine. They’ve been around for 25 years, opening their first restaurant in Framingham (Lotus Flower), then this location in Sudbury, and moving on to open Chang Sho (Cambridge) and Water Lily (Wayland) as their third and fourth restaurants.

Lotus Blossom offers a great lunch buffet from 11:30am – 2:00pm Monday – Friday. They offer many different items, including sushi! They have a Sunday brunch buffet with over 35 items (also including sushi) and Chef Wesley’s updated versions of classic Asian dishes. Not into buffets? They have a great lunch special for $8.95-$10.50 that includes your choice of a vegetable spring roll or a fried chicken wing and your choice of vegetable fried or steamed rice. Main dishes for the lunch special include things like sweet and sour chicken, chicken and cashew nuts, beef and broccoli, shrimp in lobster or garlic sauce or General Gau’s chicken.

For dinner, we ordered a bunch of appetizers and soups to keep it light. The kids loved the steak teriyaki and edamame. The wonton soup was a good choice, a classic, and one of my favorites. I tried the ramen here, which was very tasty. Flavorful and full of noodles.

Our server was attentive and we were able to sit in a quiet table in the back where the kids weren’t going to bother the other diners. The restaurant has a large footprint, so it is perfect if you had a large group with you. The bar area was lively and the takeout business was booming.

I headed over to Assembly Row recently to meet the girls for lunch. We settled on Fuji, and I was excited to try it out. You may have been to one of their other restaurants, they have a few: Fuji at WOC, B Cafe, Shabu, Fuji at Kendall, Bistro Chi, Kama Lounge, Sabu and Mein, Fuji at Inkblock or Yocha. Reservations can be made on Reserve.

They have a great space – very open and plenty of seating. Service was good and our food came out quickly.

They have a nice selection of sushi, traditional entrees and noodles. They offer hand made dim sum dumplings which sounded delicious – next time! I’ve already bought a Groupon and am planning my next trip!

Fuji has a good kids menu (I’d like to order off of it)- for $10 you can have a grilled chicken, a chicken cutlet or a grilled salmon(add $2) meal that comes with white rice, sweet potato tempura fries, steamed broccoli and a choice of milk or juice box.

The hot and sour soup ($5) hit the spot, made in the classic Sichuan style with tofu, bamboo shoots, wood ears and mushrooms.

Fuji offers some great lunch specials. From 11am-3pm every day, they offer bento boxes for $16. This whole tray above is what you’ll get. So it is served with white rice, miso soup, salad, spicy edamame, 2 pieces of pork gyoza, 2 pieces of shumai, sweet potato and zucchini tempura, and some spicy tuna maki. For your main dish in the bento you have your choice of chicken, salmon or eel teriyaki, stir fried cumin beef, general gao’s chicken or kung pao chicken. I had enough here for two meals! They also offer deluxe bento boxes for $22 and sushi lunch sets staring at $12. The food was tasty – I plan on trying the sushi next. Stay tuned!

This would be great for families and there were even people dining solo here. The staff was attentive and friendly.

We order the same things these days, with kids it’s hard to try new things when we are out at a restaurant. So we went with the General Gao chicken, served with steamed broccoli, the scallion pancakes and the chicken lo mein. The chicken was crispy, sweet and had a nice little kick to it. The broccoli was so tasty that even my son ate it. The scallion pancakes were good – perfectly crisp on the outside and just the right amount of salty goodness. They weren’t too greasy, which I really liked. The lo mein wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, it was a little heavy on the sauce, but the noodles were good and there was a good amount of chicken in the dish.

Where is your go to Chinese take out spot?

It’s hard to find good Chinese on the Cape. Our neighbors at home get takeout from the Hong Kong all the time and suggested that we try it out.

IMG_2714

Located right on the main road, this little restaurant does a huge takeout business. Be prepared to wait – even if you call in your order.

IMG_2715

The chicken teriyaki comes in a small or large appetizer option. They are pretty basic.

IMG_2716

The boneless spare ribs were pretty tasty, probably one of the better items that we ordered.

IMG_2717

The lo-mein and the pork fried rice were again, ok – not great, not bad.

IMG_2718

The dumplings were pan fried and a little on the greasy side. I was disappointed that they weren’t more flavorful.

Tell me where you go on the Cape for great Chinese food!!

Shanghai Jade opened up in the old Zenna Noodle Bar space. While we ordered take out, we picked it up and we noticed that the space doesn’t seem like it is finished being decorated – like the college dorm room of restaurants. We ordered the pan friend raviolis (6 for $6.50) which were just average.

IMG_8223

The spring rolls (2 for $3.95) were crispy but lacked flavor.

IMG_8222

The chicken and broccoli ($10.95) was pretty tasty.

Shanghai Jade, which opened last year, has two chefs, both Chinese, one is trained in stir-fry technique and the other an expert in dim sum and noodles. The menu features Shanghai style dim sum and a dish called “strange flavored chicken”. While there are some authentic dishes on the menu you can still find favorite standby options like lo-mein and General Gau’s chicken.

imag1695I haven’t been to this area since I was in college, heading out to Great Scott for “Ladies 80’s Night”. My friend told me that we should check out Shaghai Gate because the food was excellent and so were the prices.  Parking was a bit difficult at the meters on the street, so take public transportation if you can. We ordered the sauteed rice cake with chicken, pork and shrimp ($9.50). I’ve never had rice cake noodles in this shape before, but really liked the texture of them. The meat was a little sparse in this dish but I loved the sauce.

imag1694My friend went with the good old standby, General Gao’s chicken ($10.95). The dish was light with just a little bit of sweetness to it. At the end of the meal we felt full and had plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. Service was a bit spotty at moments, so perhaps next time we try take out.

IMG_4250On our last night in Philly we were looking for some good old fashioned Chinese food. Jane G’s was right pretty close to the hotel. Jane Guo opened this restaurant in 2012, her second restaurant in Philly.

IMG_4251The restaurant was getting busier and busier as the night went on – there were a few large parties celebrating occasions tonight. We sat at a table close to the front door, which proved to be a bit chilly on this cool night.

IMG_4252Looking to warm up, we started with the wonton soup, served family style.

IMG_4255The pork, leek and shrimp dumplings did not disappoint ($6).

IMG_4257Crispy rice with chicken ($14) is sweet and sour red sauce with vegetables and exotic mushroom poured over crackling rice cakes. I really loved this dish – the rice cakes were delicious (a little chewy and a little crispy).

IMG_4261General Tso’s honey walnut chicken ($15) was chicken with sweet plum sauce, broccoli and candied walnuts – a nice classic dish.

IMG_4263The Sichuan string beans were tasty, but I think at that point, our eyes were bigger than our stomachs…we couldn’t finish all the food on the table!

IMG_2084Bernard’s used to be tucked in a corner in the Chestnut Hill mall, but has since moved over to the new construction, “The Street”. We were going to head to the Shake Shack, but the line was out the door, so we decided to try out Bernard’s for the first time. We’ve heard only good things about this place. There was a good crowd here – lots of people a the bar watching the game, and a lot of large parties in the back. They found a table for us in back, next to the chain link curtain that separates a section off the larger room into a semi private area.

IMG_2085We started with the chicken spring rolls ($4.75) which were crispy and pretty par for the course as far as spring rolls go.

IMG_2086We liked the pan fried Peking raviolis ($6.95).

IMG_2087The beef teriyaki ($7.50) were well seasoned and perfectly cooked. They were the best appetizer of the three.

IMG_2088The chicken lo mein ($8.50) was tasty and well prepared, not greasy at all.

IMG_2089The pork fried rice, a staple of any Chinese food meal we have!

IMG_2090

The Mongolian beef was excellent, the best  dish of the night. The meat was well seasoned, and tender, while the rice crisps added a nice texture.

IMG_2092

The General Tso’s chicken ($15.95) was good – a little sweet and a little spicy. Service here was spotty at times, but good overall. We would certainly go back for another meal here.

IMG_0196Sichuan Gourmet has a location on Beacon Street in Brookline that is our go-to Chinese food take out spot. We happened to be running an errand in Framingham so we decided to try out that location.

IMG_0198The interior seems a little more updated than the Brookline location. When we arrived it was pretty empty, but as we were getting our appetizers, the place really filled up quickly.

IMG_0200These paper place mats with the Chinese Zodiac just make me smile, makes me nostalgic about a place I used to go to as a kid.

IMG_0202We aren’t adventurous with our Chinese food. The guy at the Brookline location always asks us is we would like to try something different. We order very “American” choices. The pan fried raviolis are good – they come 6 to an order. 5 of them were delicious but one was over fried and hard as a rock on the outside.

IMG_0201The scallion pancakes were light and tasty with just enough of a scallion taste.

IMG_0204The General Tso’s chicken was good but the chicken as cooked a bit too long in the fryer for my taste.

IMG_0205

My go to dish. The chicken lo mein has a light sauce and has ton’s of noodles – the are a few pieces of chicken here and there, but that’s just fine with me (I love the noodles). Overall the meal was good – the service was quick and efficient, polite but not overly friendly.
