May 18, 2010 JWay Cafe
Located in the basement of a bookstore, JWay Cafe offers diners something other than the ‘norm’. They serve southern cooking with a kick!
It’s a pretty simple operation and it looks like you’re eating in your parents basement-but you aren’t there for the ambiance, you’re there for the food.
The jambalaya is quite spicy…I like my soups and stews to be on the thicker side, but it was still pretty darn delicious. There was plenty of meat and the rice helped balance the spice. The corn muffin wasn’t half bad either-home made and with carrots inside.
I was totally diggin’ the pulled pork sandwich! The meat was marinated in a sweet and tangy sauce and the roll was wonderfully soft-making it an excellent combination. You leave here dreaming of the pulled pork sandwich. It came with a side of potato salad that was quite egg-y…like I said, I could have had a side of pulled pork with my pulled pork sandwich!
This a great place for a low key lunch-something out of the norm. If the line at Centre Street Cafe is too long, head down the block to this place-you won’t be disappointed!
