November 12, 2013 Blue Colony Diner
On our way home from New York, we stopped in at the Blue Colony Diner – it’s just off the highway. The outside is retro – just what you would hope the outside of a diner would look like.
They are open 24 hours, and it’s the kind of place that attracts all types. There were certainly regulars at the counter, tourists coming in for a bite and to stretch their legs, locals and their families.
The interior reminds me a little of Bickford’s and apparently, it’s Christmas all year round here. The place is PACKED…so as much as other reviewers on sites are complaining about them, they must be doing something right…(right?!?)
I realize that when in a diner, you should stick to diner food, eat what they do best, but I was just in the mood for pasta (the sauce and meatballs I ordered on the side, everything was home made).
Check out the size of those tomato slices on the burger! It seems like bigger is better is a theme here. The danish and pastry here are the size of a dinner plate, and the price is right! A huge cookie for $1 – they have them wrapped up and ready to take out by the counter! The service was ok – our waitress was working a super long shift and seemed no nonsense when we sat down, but warmed up a bit the longer we were there. I can imagine how tiring it must be to be up on your feet day in and day out. Overall, it wasn’t as bad as some people were saying, however, the food didn’t wow me either. For me, this place was all about price and convenience.
