A Little Bit About a Lot of Things

A lifestyle blog with a focus on my food adventures

IMG_9606Located in Inman Square, Puritan was top on my “to try” list. On street parking is available, and meters shut off after 6.

IMG_9609Love the decor here. Things are simple and elegant. You may know the chef, Will Gilson, from Garden at the Cellar.

IMG_9608We arrive early and sit at the bar for a drink. The fresh rolls are delicious – they are soft and come topped with salt – yum! I don’t recognize the wines on the menu, but the bartender lets me taste two based on what I explained I like. He is friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. I could have sit at the bar all night.

IMG_9614In addition to the delicious rolls we had the pickle pot (say that 5 times fast). They do all their pickling in house.

IMG_9610I started with the mushroom appetizer. The egg was so perfectly cooked, I can’t stop thinking about it. The dish was amazing to look at – I almost didn’t want to eat it. But every bite was quickly devoured by yours truly. The egg added some salty goodness to the hearty mushrooms. Loved all the flavors!

IMG_9611For my main dish I went with the scallops. Three perfectly cooked and presented. The dish had such clean flavors.

IMG_9612  For dessert we had the lemon curd  – an interesting concept and presentation. There were delicate flowers placed in the dish and it was sprinkled with ground pistachios. It was tasty bu the pot de creme stole the show.IMG_9613The pot de creme was dense and rich with honey and caramel on the bottom – amazing!

IMG_9615I was reading Bon Appetit’s September issue where they talked about The Pass and Provisions in Houston and their shared WC. I was amused to see that Puritan also followed this trend by keeping the sinks outside the bathrooms.
