A Little Bit About a Lot of Things

A lifestyle blog with a focus on my food adventures

IMG_8722One of my good friends moved to Chicago a while back. We see each other about once a year when he and his girlfriend, now fiancee, come to vacation down at the beach. We were hoping to go to Neptune’s but the line there was 2 hours long, so we decided to go to the Barking Crab instead. The wait wasn’t bad at all, and with 10 of us, we managed to grab a whole table for ourselves, they have communal picnic tables there. The weather was steamy and there was a nice breeze coming off the water, but the glare from the setting sun was tough for part of our meal. There is a mix of the after work crowd and tourists at this hour. The restaurant is very casual, serving pitchers of beer in the bar area walled off by a chain link fence while you wait for your table.

IMG_8724I had the “naked lobster roll” which is 6 oz. of lobster with butter, fries and slaw for $29. There was a lot of claw meat in the roll, and the bun was nicely toasted. The lobster wasn’t as sweet as I had hoped, but the meal overall wasn’t bad at all. The fries were delicious, nice and crispy. A nice way to spend a summer evening. The service is just so so. Our waitress was in the weeds and the place was packed with tourists and the after work crowd. The Barking Crab is really casual, meals are served in plastic baskets and drinks are served in plastic cups. As we were finishing up our meal, a waitress bussing a table drops a half full drink on the floor, the left over liquid comes flying up from the cup and lands all over my back. Not so much as an apology, a free drink, or an offer to pay for my dry cleaning, as if spilling drinks on patrons here is a “normal” thing. No big deal, but would have liked some kind of acknowledgement.
