July 22, 2013 Strega Waterfront
Date night! We headed over to Strega Waterfront – my co-workers RAVE about it. We had been to Strega in the North End, and didn’t love it, but hey, they deserve a second shot. We arrive down in Fort Point and are greeting by a guy who looks a little like Paulie from the Sopranos. There may also be guys there that look like Sil and Bobby. Our waiter was attractive, polished and knowledgeable. Tonight we ordered all the specials. To start we had the burrata special with tomatoes and prosciutto and a nice drizzle of balsamic. Delicious!
The steak special – talk about a Fred Flintstone steak!
I had the seafood fra diavlo special – half a lobster in its shell, shrimps, scallops, calamari, clams and mussels. There was barely any room for the pasta!
Our waiter recites the dessert menu from memory. We grab a slice of ricotta pie, and it is delicious! We licked the plate clean.
We love amaretto cake, so how could we pass it up? Equally delicious and we finished it squally as fast.
This location, open since 2010, is much larger than the North End location. As in the North End, they also have TVs on the wall playing mob movies. There is a huge circular stone arch in the middle of the dining room which is confusing as it feels almost Asian inspired – but Nick Varano is bold, always making a statement. They have a traditional private dining room with walls covered in wine and bold artwork. The bar area has a very different feel to it, you walk into a grand piano in the entry way and walk into a very retro feeling space. All that being said, we had a really lovely experience there, and look forward to heading back there now that the weather is nice, and grabbing a bite outside on the patio. Even if you don’t see any celebrities, the people watching is always amazing.
