November 30, 2012 Salty Pig
I have been to the Salty Pig a number of times after work for drink, but I have never had a full meal there. Everyone I know said that the food there was delicious and that the pizzas were tasty, so one night, a friend and I went for dinner. It gets pretty busy right after work, so expect to wait for a seat if you go early. While the charcuterie looked tasty, we went with something different. I had the Hen of the Wood special. Out waitress described the mushroom as, “it tastes like chicken”, which if you ask me..is wrong, but whatever. Hen of the woods mushrooms on top of a bed of polenta and the whole dish covered with a friend egg. The dish was creamy and smooth with just the right amount of saltiness. I’m pretty sure I could have had 3 of these!
We had the mussels as well, of course it came with bits of bacon. They left a little to be desired- they were a little on the bland side and the bacon didn’t add anything special-bummer!
The flat bread pizzas are certainly tasty-a little larger than a personal sized pizza this is a great dish to share, along with a few other small plates. The pizza was light and the crust was crisp.
The ladie’s room was covered in far side cartoons, which was pretty amusing! The service was so so, there were good moments and then our waitress would get in the weeds and we wouldn’t see her for a long time. Overall, a nice place to go after work to have a few drinks and some light bar snacks-when the weather is nice, try to grab a table outside!
