A Little Bit About a Lot of Things

A lifestyle blog with a focus on my food adventures

We went to Wagamama in Harvard Square on a Sunday evening. The restaurant, to our surprise, wasn’t that croweded, which was nice, since the tables lean towards communal. We had good parking karma with a street spot right out front!

We started with the chicken dumplings ($6.50) that were fried. I think that we thought that they were going to come out differently than they did. These were really doughy and tasted like a hot pocket more than a dumpling. The filling was good, we just wish we hadn’t ordered them fried.

Edamame ($3.95), always a crowd pleaser. These were cooked perfectly with just enough salt. There is nothing worse than going out and getting soggy edamame.

Wagamama glazed ribs ($8.95) are tender pork ribs glazed with a chili hoi sin sauce. Sweet and tender, these were a total hit at our table.

The beef cha han ($10.95) came out and we were really impressed. Stir fried rice with marinated beef, snow peas, carrots and leeks, accompanied by a bowl of vegetarian miso soup and Japanese style pickles. Really tasty and flavorful.

The chicken ramen ($11) was a tasty treat. There was a lot of chicken in the spicy broth (but not too spicy). The soup had fresh chilies, red onion, bean sprouts, cilantro and scallion. A really nice dish that gives you the comfort feeling and nostalgia of your college ramen days, but with a refined upscale twist (you are a grown up after all….kind of).

The meal was really good overall, we left full but with a light feeling (leaving room for frozen yogurt). The service was decent-waiters take your order on a mobile device and write down your order on your place mat so the food runners know what goes where. The waitress was a little less attentive after taking our initial order, which was disappointing because there weren’t that many other people there. Would certainly go back to try the other kinds of ramen. A great thing about Wagamama is that many of the items can be made gluten free.
