A Little Bit About a Lot of Things

A lifestyle blog with a focus on my food adventures

I saw Vapiano featured on Chronicle. It’s this “new way to dine”. Order what you want from stations where they make your order fresh, right in front of you and then tap your card on the sensor. The card records the things that you ordered and on your way out, you pay the tab. It sort of reminded me of Marche, the three floor restaurant that used to be in the Prudential Mall.

Pretty modern inside-there are family style tables in the back…

that had stools to sit on. Booths were available in the front of the restaurant, but were hard to come by.

They even have a large tree in the middle of the restaurant. It was pretty crowded for a weekday night-there were a lot of families eating here because the price is right-Vapiano also has a $5.95 lunch special menu.

This is the pasta station. Pick a type of pasta (ie. Spaghetti, ziti, etc) and then pick your sauce. They cook it up stir fry style right in front of you.

The silver thing on the left is where you tap your card once you’ve placed your order.

We ordered the antipasto plate. The meat and cheeses were good, but there wasn’t enough bread or cheese. Huge slices of meat and then these itty bitty wedges of cheese.

Per usual, I order the bolognese. The pasta was tasty, and the portions were pretty generous….however, it was the most odd twist on bolognese I had ever seen. They put in shredded carrots and cherry tomatoes with their ground meat-it was a little weird but tasted good. Our order came with a side of bread-thankfully, because we used the bread from our entree to compensate for the lack of bread with the antipasto.

My dining companion had the sausage e verdure, whole wheat pasta with sausage and roasted vegetables in a tomato sauce.

The food was average and priced around $10 a dish, we left paying $53 for three people. There were a lot of families with young children eating there, a few people just hanging out at the bar and a bunch of students. A great place to go if you want a change from burritos, pizza and burgers. The restaurant is self serve-you find your own table, first come first serve, you set your own table, get your own drinks, but there are servers there to take away your empty plates at the end of your meal.
