May 17, 2011 Towne Stove and Spirits
Second time out at Towne (see previous post) was just as good as the first. We sat downstairs in this great table tucked away in the corner behind the stairs. A great place to hang out with a bunch of your girl friends on a Saturday night. At first when I looked at the light fixture I thought that they were antlers or something like that, but upon closer inspection, they are people. Pretty cool.
Our server was friendly, with an easy smile. He gave us some good recommendations. I started with the burrata salad ($13), which they were out of lat time I was here. It comes with a Maine hot house tomato and flaky basil pesto croissant. The burrata was excellent, although I wish that they burrata was on all three slices of tomato. The croissant was good if just slightly over cooked-but still flaky inside.
Hard to see, but this is the zucchini ‘tangle’ ($28-for the larger size, $18 for the regular appetizer portion) french fried zucchini with crisped calamari with a sweet and hot pepper pot. The calamari was tasty and light, the zucchini was a bit on the greasy side.
The rib eye steak ($39) was enormous!
But it didn’t even compare to the rib roast ($36) served Friday and Saturday only that came with a enormous (!!) baked potato.
And I went with the lobster pizza($26), which I had heard about on Chronicle….it was every bit as good as they said it was going to be. The crust was thin and crisp and the lobster was quite tasty…I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about it on a pizza, but it was a light pizza with nice flavors.
You can barely even see it, but this was dessert. Brown sugar angel food cake with caramel ice cream and maple cotton candy ($11) and excellent choice with a variety of flavors and textures that went nicely together.
I had the springtime pavlova w/ lemon curd & fresh raspberries ($9) which was such a nice way to end the meal. The lightness of the pavlova, the tartness from the lemon curd and the sweetness from the raspberries and the coulis.
A really great nice over all, good food but even better company!
