A Little Bit About a Lot of Things

I bought a buywithme.com coupon for a three-course prix fixe dinner plus a cocktail for two for $80. Wary of prix fixe dinners, I bought one anyway. Met a friend there on a Tuesday night, at 7:30, the after work crowd was still going at full tilt. The music was blaring and we sat at a banquet just a little too close to the next table-and the guy sitting at the table took that to mean that he could join our conversation.

The waitress was slow to warm up, but I think we won her over in the end. Meanwhile, she explained that it was ANY 2 appetizers, ANY two entrees, a shared dessert and ANY two cocktails. What an EXCELLENT deal!!

I started with the short rib tortellini with Madeira and truffle butter ($16) seen above. There were 5 or six of them in the dish and they were excellent, they would have been good as a meal all by themselves or with a few other appetizers tapas style.

For my entree I had the Seared scallops with beluga lentils, house cured bacon and root vegetables ($29). I have to admit that I only ate two of the scallops I was so full! The lentils were excellent and how can you go wrong putting bacon on anything? The scallops were enormous and cooked perfectly. My friend had the Monkfish tail with lobster and sweet potato hash ($32) and I thought that the lobster and sweet potato hash were out of this world!!

For dessert, we had the brownie sundae with peanut butter ice cream and chocolate sauce ($10) which the waitress said was her favorite. The brownie was crisp around the edges and fudgy on the inside. The peanut butter ice cream was SO amazing-a really rich peanut butter flavor. The chocolate sauce on top hardened a little bit, reminding me of the chocolate magic shell topping (but more refined or course).

By the time we got to dessert, the crowd had thinned out, and the music had died down, or we could actually hear it…one or the other. The meal was excellent-more so than the ambiance. My meal alone was probably $80, so it was a really good deal-I’m glad I had the chance to try this place out (it had been on my “to go to” list for months).
