A Little Bit About a Lot of Things

A lifestyle blog with a focus on my food adventures

I have driven by the Cottage many times, mainly because it’s in the same parking lot as the Roche Brothers where I sometimes go grocery shopping, and never really thought to stop in. We went this past weekend, it was particularly cold outside, but when you walk in the front door, you think you have been whisked away to someones summer home. From the built in book cases, to the sea glass and shells on display, the Cottage does a great job of making you feel as if you were dining in someones house.

It was pretty crowded on a Saturday afternoon, thankfully we had a reservation (which can be made on opentable.com). There is a big room in front and a smaller one in back which feels like a library or a study.

We sit in the back room, which is filled with sunlight from the floor to ceiling windows that look out onto the main street. Our waitress is attentive and gives us a few minutes to look over the menu. We notice that they have another restaurant in La Jolla, and we can’t help wish that we were there right now!

My dining companion gets the grilled Mahi fish tacos ($14). It was light, not fishy at all, and had bright flavors-it was really fresh.

I had the shrimp & Farfalle   ($15) with basil-cream sauce, pinenuts, roasted tomato, farfalle pasta, parmesan cheese. The shrimps were perfectly cooked and I loved the basil cream sauce. There was so much pasta that I took half of it home!

We ended the meal by splitting the peanut butter silk pie with graham cracker crust and house made hot fudge. I was wishing there was a little more crust to the pie to balance the enormous amount of filling.  The peanut butter filling was light and smooth with a great flavor to it. The pie had a layer of chocolate between the crust and the filling-so good. Add on whipped cream and home made hot fudge….SO good!

A lot of good looking choices on the menu, from salads to burgers there is something for everyone. We can’t wait to go back and try a burger because the fries here looked killer!
