January 24, 2011 Boston Burger Co.
I had bought a buywithme coupon, $10 for $20 worth of food and drink to Boston Burger Company…and then I happened to be cleaning out my DVR and watched the Rachael Ray Show-who should be on it? Boston Burger Company! Paul, the owner, was on competing for best burger. He featured his burger, “the hot mess”, American cheese, chopped up pickles, bacon, red onions, jalapeños, shredded lettuce and sweet potato fries, and it will be oozing with thousand island dressing. So now I was dying to go and try out their burgers.
We tried to go on Friday night, but when we drove over…we saw that the line was out the door and around the corner (and it was FREEZING outside….I wasn’t about to wait outside no matter HOW good the burgers were). We went back Saturday afternoon for lunch, at around 2, hoping that the line would be shorter. Indeed it was, and when you walk inside, you realize why there were people waiting outside-there are only about 10 tables inside (but keep your heads up-they are expanding into the restaurant next door, so there will be plenty of room!). They do offer take out for those who don’t want to eat in, but I happen to think that burgers just don’t taste as good if you have to drive all the way home with them and eat them luke warm.
Here’s what I love about this place, before I even try a burger…the owner (one of three) Paul, who’s from Malden, (who was on tv) was there helping out-greeting customers and clearing tables. He was talking about how business is doing really well, they opened in April 2009 and are already expanding, and his experinece at the Rachael Ray Show (they taped in November-so everything has been hush hush until the episode aired) There are so many good sounding burgers that it’s pretty hard to choose just one. Each burger is 8oz and topped with amazingly inventive ingredients (they also have chicken sandwiches for those of you who aren’t in the mood for burgers).
We start off with the sweet potato fries. I don’t want to fill up on them before the burger comes and not have any room left. They are really good, crisp and light…can it feel like french fries are healthy??
I get the Mac Attack ($8.95) Homemade 4 cheese macaroni & cheese and bacon. I know, you’re thinking…that is going to be super messy! Not even a little. They grill up the mac and cheese so it crisps up on the bottom, holding everything together. Really good burger, the meat was perfectly cooked, the mac and cheese was super creamy and flavorful and the bacon…well you have to have bacon. The roll was light, warmed up on the grill, and it held it’s own (you know how some buns can fall apart from greasy burgers). I didn’t have room for the chips or the coleslaw. 🙁
My dining companion gets the Killer Bee ($8.25) topped with American cheese, bacon, a stack of beer battered onions rings and honey BBQ sauce. This burger has some really great flavors to it, I love the classic American cheese and bacon. The onion rings give the burger a nice crunch to it and I love the sweetness of the sauce. The burger came with a side of beans, really great flavor to them with a hint of sweetness.
The service was excellent, they were fast and efficient. There was one point in my meal when I went to take a sip of soda and couldn’t find it, I didn’t even notice the waitress had come around and was getting me a refill! There are televisions so you can watch whatever game may be on. There was a mix of people here, young and old, singles, couples and families. I like that it really had a neighborhood feel to it.
We will definitely be going back (once I get my cholesterol back to a decent level) because there are so many other burgers I want to try. Check out the burger menu below or check out the website for a complete menu.
