A Little Bit About a Lot of Things

A lifestyle blog with a focus on my food adventures

I had written a post about the Christmas Festival and talked about the Gingerbread Construction Company-one of my favorite muffin places. One could argue that these aren’t really muffins in the true sense of the word. What is the difference between muffins and cupcakes? Muffins usually aren’t as sweet as cupcakes, and they often don’t have frosting. So would you call these cupcakes? Maybe. No matter what you call them, they’re delicious. (They are around $2 each)

I never remember which one is closer, and every time, I choose wrong. Pictured above is the Wakefield store. They are already set up for the holiday season with a cute tree in the window. The space is small, but packed with good things to eat. There are a few tables, and people are hanging out snacking on muffins and hot beverages.

I’m there an hour before closing on a Friday evening, there are still a bunch of muffins in most of the flavors available.

“This muffin starts with a moist cinnamon-y spice base, and then is loaded with chunks of real apples. If you like this muffin, you’d love our Apple Crumb muffin loaf.” I had a small bite of this one, I love the apples on top, and the cake was cinnamon-y!!

“Local handpicked raspberries and sweet Maine blueberries are combined in this muffin to create the perfect balance of sweet and sour.” This is a classic-a must get if you come here.

“An extra moist muffin filled with fresh, plump raisins and topped off with our light orange colored cream cheese icing. If you like this muffin, you’d love our Pumpkin Raisin muffin loaf with icing or without icing.” I didn’t try this one this time around, but I love any of their muffins with frosting!

“This refreshing lemon muffin is filled with poppy seeds then baked. While it’s still hot, we fill it with a zesty and deliciously gooey lemon filling. It’s topped off with a sprinkle of powdered sugar.” I have to say that this one wasn’t my favorite. The lemon filling was really thick and reminded me of the filling from those Hostess pies-that said, you really needed the filling because the muffin itself was pretty dry.

“This breakfast staple has been perfected by the Gingerbread Construction Co. The buttery creation is the best Corn muffin around! Try this muffin in loaf form during the fall for the perfect addition to your Thanksgiving dinner table!” Again, a staple for when I go here-the corn muffins are so moist!

“Our long awaited sensation. This muffin is filled with our cinnamon schmear and then topped with a chunky cinnamon crumble. If you like this muffin, you’d love our Coffee Cake muffin loaf.” I liked this muffin, I loved the crumbles and the “schmear” inside.

Here’s the inside of the coffee cake muffin.

“This super moist muffin is packed with pieces of Mandarin oranges and almond slivers. Before baking, it’s topped off with more pieces of almond to give it the perfect crispness when it comes out of the oven.” I didn’t get a chance to try this one either, bummer, but it looked delicious!

I switched things up and decided to try a carrot muffin loaf. When I was a kid, I never would eat the red and green pasta in the tri-colored pasta, I was convinced it tasted different. Even though this is the same muffin recipe as the muffins, just in a loaf shape, I just think it tastes different. ($7.49)

The bread is much denser than the muffin and not as moist, but the flavor is still delicious and the frosting is by far the best part for me!
