We received a nice gift from a client in the mail today-so excited that it was candy! Boxes and boxes of candy.
White chocolate tortue (the French word for turtle) made with sugar, corn syrup, pecans, cream, evaporated milk, eggs, butter, gelatin, partially hydrogenated vegetable oil, lecithin, artificial and natural flavors. Each one is 1 oz. Ours were with pecans, but they can come in cashew, peanut, macadamia nut, double dipped, sugar free, white, dark or milk chocolate-even plain with no chocolate on top.
They make their caramel daily from scratch. It’s creamy and smooth. I know you’ve had those turtles that have the caramel that’s hard enough to crack your tooth, this caramel is SO soft! It’s hard to believe that they are so fresh (well, they do come individually wrapped for freshness).
Tons of Louisiana pecans! Just a great balance of sweet and salty, soft and crunchy. They even won the Best Candy award in the Martha’s Vineyard show.
The Jackson Square-“A store secret for many years, our Jackson Squares contain a layer of our amazing fresh caramel and a dollop of slightly salted peanut butter, sealed up by crisp rice in rich milk chocolate. The entire thing is then crowned with a careful drizzle of dark and white chocolates.”
I didn’t know what I was in for when I bit into this-I thought it was going to be a solid brick. I was surprised that it was soft and creamy. The peanut butter tastes like a Reeses! A nice salty taste-and the combination of sweet and salty is delicious.
The creamy praline is made with sugar, cream, milk, butter, pecans and salt. I have to admit, I’ve never had a praline before, so I have no idea what it’s “supposed” to taste like. The outside is a bit chalky in appearance. When you bite into it, it is super sweet-like eating pure sugar. It tastes buttery and has an interesting consistency when you let it dissolve in your mouth. Not my favorite of the bunch.
Lastly, the Bourbon Street Bark. “Veritably littered with goodness, not unlike its namesake, Bourbon Street Bark is an elegant swirl of milk, dark and white chocolate, peanut butter, pretzels, Oreo® pieces, and sprinkles of Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies®. One of our proudest creations, it was an instant hit in our Decatur Street shops.” It has sugar, cocoa, milk, vegetable oil, lecithin, vanillin, peanut butter, pretzels, rice crisps and oreos. It has everything but the kitchen sink. I thought that it wasn’t bad-but the tastes just got lost because they have too much going on. If you are going to do a bar like this, you should taste an example from the Hotel Chocolat.
